Although salicylate-containing products are perfectly fine for most people to use, for the salicylate-sensitive, the chemical can pose a problem, eliciting a myriad of symptoms if their personal threshold is overshot.
While food is the main area where people focus their salicylate attention, the pervasive chemical is also found in many personal care products. Because most of us like to use hair care products on a regular basis, be it shampoo, conditioner, hairspray or hair-dye, it’s not ideal to have to remove them from the shopping list completely. Fortunately, we can limit our exposure to salicylates by purchasing salicylate-free hair products, the best of which I have outlined below.
Hopefully the list provides a little help and assurance to those searching for haircare alternatives. And if you have any of your own salicylate-free hair product recommendations, please feel free to share them below.

Note: While I’ve done my best to make sure the above products are free from salicylates, please make sure to always check the ingredients list before using as manufacturers can change their products without notice. It’s also a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional and/or do a patch test on your skin/head before applying liberally to see if you experience a reaction.
